Stokes Environmental has identified, coordinated surveys, coordinated habitat surveys, and provided habitat mitigation for various threatened and endangered species in Virginia.

Stokes Environmental provided key environmental expertise to locate and identify various threatened and endangered species and their habitat at various locations within Virginia. We found innovative solutions to manage such resources, which enabled permit approvals as necessary for site development.


Localities involved include: Fairfax County, James City County, York County, and Cities of Chesapeake, Newport News, Suffolk and Virginia Beach.

Specific species included:

Small Whorled Pogonia
(Isotria medeoloides)

Federal threatened, State Endangered
Habitat survey coordinated in James City County, found in Fairfax County.

Harper's fimbry
(Fimbristylis perpusilla)

State Endangered
Found and preserved in York County.

Canebrake Rattlesnake
(Crotalus horridus)

State Endangered
Found in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. Habitat mitigation available in Suffolk locations.

Mabee's Salamander
(Ambystoma mabeei)

State Threatened

Dismal Swamp Southeastern Shrew
